EEPROM, BIN, HEX and what verification means
Start with the captured data and the memory layout. A familiar file extension is not evidence of completeness or compatibility.
EEPROM dump versus complete firmware
An EEPROM dump is a saved sequence of bytes read from a memory region. In a module it can include identifiers, configuration and vendor-specific values. It does not automatically include all memory pages or executable firmware.
A 128-byte file establishes its length. It does not establish that its first byte is device address zero. File offsets and device/page addresses need separate labels.
BIN and HEX
BIN stores bytes directly. Plain HEX text represents each byte with two hexadecimal digits: the bytes 00, 1A and FF can be written as 001AFF. Whitespace may be used for readability.
Addressed HEX formats can also carry addresses and checksums. Do not assume that every .hex file is plain byte text, or silently discard address records, gaps or unknown pages.
What SHA-256 proves
SHA-256 is a fingerprint of the exact byte sequence. Recomputing the hash of a downloaded file and comparing it with the expected value checks that the bytes match that reference.
A matching hash does not identify a suitable target device, establish the source's trustworthiness, or prove a successful equipment test.
What checksum results mean
Fields such as CC_BASE and CC_EXT describe checks over particular regions in an applicable memory layout. Their addresses and interpretation must come from that layout, not from one universal template.
A checksum can be correct while the file is unsuitable for a particular module. An imported checksum label should remain distinguishable from a checksum independently recomputed by a known decoder version.
Before using a file
Check the module and hardware revision, captured length and address coverage, source and modifications, and any test report for your exact host and software version. Keep your original capture and use the applicable device and tool documentation.
If the layout or applicability is unknown, preserve that uncertainty. A vendor-name match or a similar part number is not a substitute for the missing information.
